PERSONAL APPEARANCE

Youth are often focused on the latest fashion trends, but inexperienced in understanding how their appearance is perceived outside of their social circle. In this module, participants learn that Rocawear track suits, do-rags, tank tops and other clothes that are mandatory day wear among teens send out a strong message that some people find offensive.

The Personal Appearance module stresses the importance of choosing appropriate dress for the occasion and the need for good hygiene habits. The animated short highlights the social and health benefits of good grooming, including brushing teeth, washing hair, caring for nails and applying deodorant. The truth is that good grooming and projecting a clean, neat image are effective ways to build better self-esteem and achieve goals.

In addition, participants explore the role that body language plays in relation to personal appearance in an exercise called “Name that Attitude,” and examine the broad spectrum of dress that can be used for business and social attire.
