Computer learning activities are fully integrated with the animated life skills curriculum acting as a central medium for education and skill-building. Students communicate their ideas using web design and Power Point; collect and analyze data using spreadsheets; and access the vast resources of the Internet for research using browsers and search engines.
In the Self-Discovery module, participants think about what they like to do and set both short- and long-term goals to accomplish what they want in life. Then the group looks at what can be done right away-including improving their academic performance-to turn these dreams into reality.
This module examines advocating for one's needs and emphasizes learning and academic work as vital steps to reaching one's vision. Participants also learn about their individual learning styles and ways of processing information, and how to put that into action to become a successful student. Participants learn tools to practice self-control and discipline to reach their goals and build confidence while they affirm their strengths, and recognize their unique talents and those of others in their class. Participants' goals become part of their personal portfolios and are revisited throughout the program.
